Bored?
Bored meaning in the Cambridge Dictionary –
Feeling unhappy because something is not interesting or because you have
nothing to do.
The opposite of boredom is activity so if you are feeling
bored, you need to find something to do.
It can be either mentally or physically and many times you
have to step out of your comfort zone.
Sometimes that is not easy or convenient, but if you are going to defeat
boredom, you have to do it.
I can hear the arguments now, I do not have the money,
physically cannot do fun things, nothing sounds interesting, etc. and the list
can go on.
How to combat boredom.
Here are a few things that I suggest and some only costs
time and effort.
Read – get a good book and enjoy it. You might just learn something new.
Get a hobby – collect things, take pictures of things that
interest you. Just getting off your butt
and doing something will make you feel better.
Physical exercise – YouTube has tons of home exercises
anyone can do. Go for walks or on hikes, get involved with sports or complete projects
around home.
Take tours to someplace you have never been. You might be amazed at what you will find
about where you live or work. Start a
scrapbook with pictures and notes and share it with others.
Get involved with a church or in your community. Might make some new friends while helping
others.
Write your own cookbook to share with friends and family or
sell it. Write interesting stories about
your favorite recipes.
Learn something new. How about a second language or a musical instrument.
There are many more things than what I have
listed here. Just think about what you
like to do or would like to do and do it.
Bob Gaylor, a former Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force
said in a recent talk, “you cannot be bored without you accepting it and
boredom is a self-inflicted wound.”
In other words, if you are bored and refuse to find
something to do that is interesting, then you are choosing to be bored. No one is forcing you.
