Proud to be an LSU fan
Our football team started the 2022 year with a lot of questions and a
lot of doubts. This followed a year that saw the Tigers go 6-7 and get mauled
by Kansas State 42-20 in the Texas Bowl with only 38 scholarship players on the
team. That
loss capped LSU’s worse season of the 21st century.
What a let down from only two years before, when many say we fielded
the best college team to ever play the game. A team that went undefeated and won
the national championship.
We started the 2022 year with a new coach and staff, with a roster filled
in with players from the transfer portal.
LSU was forecast to be fifth in the SEC west and most felt they would
finish with 6 or 7 wins for the year. I thought if we could win 7 games, it
would be a good first year for Coach Kelly and his team.
All this is important
to put keep things in perspective and realize how far LSU has come in such a
short time.
2 ½ months later, it’s the end of the regular season. The Tigers finished
9-3, won the SEC West, and will face the Georgia Bulldogs for the SEC title.
The Bulldogs are undefeated and ranked #1 in all the polls, so our work is cut
out for us.
The Tigers finished the year suffering a beat down at Texas A&M
38-23. The final score doesn’t show how bad we got beat. The Tigers were
outplayed and outcoached and never was in the game. It almost looked like they
were looking forward to the SEC title game and overlooked a team with a losing
record that had barely beat a division 2 team the week before.
Looking at the statistics and records, beating
Georgia to win the SEC title seems unlikely. Don’t count them out because when
this inconsistent Tiger team is hot — like against Ole Miss and Alabama — it
can beat anyone.
I am proud of this year’s Tigers, and win
or lose against the Bulldogs, what a great year it’s been.
It’s a great time to be a Tiger!
